Violet Eyes Once upon a Time Debbie Viguié Books
POSSIBLE SPOILERSViolet Eyes (Once Upon A Time) by Debbie Viguié is the basic retelling of the Princess and the Pea. If you know the story, you know it is. A Princess comes to a castle and claims she's a Princess and the King/Queen there must test to see if she actually is one by putting a small pea under hundreds of mattresses. Because she's so frail, she's able to feel the pea underneath all of the mattresses and it's proven that she's a real Princess.
Violet Eyes is a bit different in the fact that there are several tests with several Princesses and the winner will marry the Prince. I liked this aspect a bit more because it wasn't just one Princess and the King and Queen seemed more concerned about their son and who would be best for him and the country and not just an alliance. Would kinda suck if they married their son to someone good for an alliance but was a cold hearted backstabber who just wanted to the country. Plus, it was nice to see the tests the King and Queen came up with. It wasn't just testing the sensitivity of the Princesses, but their personality.
For the most part, I did enjoy this story. I think that's partly due to the fact that I have always had a soft spot for the Princess and the Pea story. As far as actual writing, depth and characters, eh, it wasn't all that good.
The dialogue either sucked or was nonexistent between the Prince and Violet. After some strange conversation, they're suddenly madly in love with each other and kissing passionately. That was just strange. I didn't see the romance, the love there. It was just told that they loved each other so passionately.
The battle at the end was so random and felt out of place. I honestly think it could have been taken out and been perfectly fine. When I read the battle, I thought it was so random and didn't make any sense whatsoever.
Overall, it's a cute, short story based on the Princess and the Pea. If you enjoyed that fairytale or wanted a different take on this story, go ahead and read this book. It's not long, it's not too expensive, so it's not bad to pick up. If you're unsure, rent it from the library and go from there.

Violet Eyes Once upon a Time Debbie Viguié Books Reviews
it was great book. totally clean and apporiate for kids. i would suggest to wait tell seven or eight to read this book. but other than that it's a book great for any age. i loved it so much that i read it three times. again a great book.
The tale of the princess and the pea with a twist. Girls are competing to win over the queen's favor and the prince's heart, can Violet, a farm girl, compete against all the princesses to win her love.
While I felt the characters were rather bland, this book makes up for it in its creative and satisfying take on "The Princess and the Pea." It almost has an underlying sarcastic view of the ridiculous tests the princesses are forced to go through, and takes on a more realistic approach that you'll enjoy. This series is the best!
but if it is anything like the rest of the series, I'm gonna love it
The Once Upon A Time series takes traditional fairy tales and retells them. In this case, "The Princess and the Pea" is turned on its head and fleshed out.
Violet helps the prince recover from a fall on her family's farm, falling in love with him while she does. When he is healed, her parents tell her that she is not really their child - they believe she is the land's lost princess. Violet sets off to the castle to participate in the competition to be awarded the prince's hand (think the balls in Cinderella).
I loved the novel take on the tale; I didn't figure out it was "The Princess and the Pea" until near the end. The writing was pure fairy tale fare while also being well-developed and having strong characters. The prince is likeable and actually slightly more developed than Prince Charming, while the princesses are strong, independent girls. Recommended!
I truly like what was done with the 'Princess and the Pea' trails. I've always thought them silly and weird but here they have a depth that in some ways make sense.
I had some issues with the interaction between characters. They did not seem realistic.
Overall this as a short sweet delight if you just want to check out for a few hours.
I thought Violet Eyes was a very good retelling of The Princess and the Pea. Its about a gil named Violet and a prince named Richard. They meet and quickly fall in love. The most interesting part of the story is when Violets parents tell her she is not their daughter and that she is actually the lost princess in the kingdom. Violet must compete with the other princess's and win her man. Some of them actually help her and become her friend. I won't tell you anymore. But this is a great retelling of the princess and the pea. Everybody who loves fairytales even rewritten ones should read this!!!
