This book sounded interesting enough that I was actually excited to read it. Upon actually beginning the book, I was a little dismayed by the initial grammar mistakes on the second page. After I adjusted to the strange way the author uses repeat phrases and misplaced commas (this author has a thing for the word 'though,' I was hoping to really get into this book and enjoy it. This is not the worst writing I have seen by far and I felt this book had potential to become really good. My problem was that the first chapter didn't excite me enough to keep reading. I tried. but I found my mind drifting off every couple of sentences. I may not be the best judge of what this book is really all about or even if it got better later on, but I just couldn't concentrate enough on the initial chapter to keep going. I think if there had been more excitement at the beginning I might have been encouraged to keep reading.

Interesting story line, and likable characters.

What I liked I was in love with the story line. The author mixed multi-dimensions with the Zodiac calendar, and even Egyptian culture. Super interesting, and really intriguing. The heroine was likable, and her relationship with the hero was cute to watch develop (even if most of it happened before the book began). She clearly set up the rest of the series with the details shared with the protagonists, and the book didn't end in a cliffhanger.

What I didn't like The amount of editing that needs to be done to this book is astounding. Usually I can work around some typos, missing periods, apostrophes in the wrong place but this book was PACKED with them. Entire words would be missing, quotation marks missing, even the order of words in a sentence would have me sitting there trying to figure out what she was trying to say. In the "About the Author" section at the end of the book she boasted about writing twenty books in four years. Maybe if she had slowed her roll, proper editing could be done to what is apparently her debut novel. Reading the preview for Embody (the second installment) was also a personal mistake because it felt like I was reading a completely different series. The character was likable and overall open to everything going on, and in the preview she was honestly nasty to everyone around her and downright snarky. Even the writing style was different in the preview than in the first. Maybe it makes sense if the rest of the book is read, but all in all it had the opposite effect it was supposed to it made me not want to read the rest of the series.
I have to say I was disappointed. It sounded like a cool story that was different from the others I've read, your usual young adult love stories and whatnot, but this was not very well developed before being published. The writing is similar to a starting fan-fiction writer, the editing was poorly done (I noticed multiple times that the tenses switched from past to present and back to past), all of the characters were undeveloped (some of which seemed to be thrown in just because), and there was a lot of things happening at the same time without any real connection to each other. I only got into the first few chapters, but unfortunately I had to stop because I couldn't stand it. I've read tons of stories, and though this has potential if it was plotted out and redone, the way this is currently published is just plain terrible. Thankfully it is free so that you can make your own decisions, but as an avid reader and studying editor, don't read this. It will make your head hurt trying to keep up with all of the thoughts and actions going on...

Jamie, I am sorry, but this needs work. It's a great idea, but it seems like you just wrote down whatever idea came to your mind, and put them together in this story, whether it made sense or not. Too much at once, and not enough backbone to keep it standing straight.
Decent story - lots of characters to remember. Contains some romance, lots of mystery, magic(ish). Author has built a solid foundation for the universe she is telling the story about, though I don't know if it's quite believable.

Book moves fairly quick in the beginning, kind of drags on and stagnates in the (long) middle, and right at the end things get hectic. The relationships between the characters didn't seem quite realistic (more about this below). Besides the formatting issue, I found some typos and poor editing (were instead of where) but overall a good read. The one thing that really bothered me was the religious aspect. The author doesn't make it a huge deal, so it isn't too strong, but in that case why put it in there at all? Anyhow, religion just doesn't seem to flow with the story and it seems as though the author is just inserting her beliefs in to the book and forcing characters to regurgitate.

Glad I got it for free! Probably will read sequel.

**SPOILERS AHEAD***
Because there are so many characters, I found it confusing to tell who belonged to which directly family line; especially since some parental units were missing. I found myself having to re-read certain passages to ensure that I had the relationships straight, which kind of messed up the flow for me. I suppose I just should have remembered the family trees after reading it once, so whatever.

On another note, I found the worlds and the characters to be <i>too</i> monotone. There are three different planets/worlds in this book, one being super beautiful, where colors are more vibrant and everything is simply better (they live completely green too! People there are all compassionate, caring, etc - in fact there has never been a war there. Then on the other side of the spectrum is a world that lacks colors; everything is grey, black, beige. People keep to themselves, never laugh or have joy, etc. And in the middle is our planet Earth which contains elements of both worlds...I just feel as though the other worlds are so uncreative and lack any kind of dynamics.

Lastly - the relationship between Landon, WIllow, and Libby kind of creeps me out! I know Willow asks her mom if she thinks it's weird and mom answers no, but seriously it weirds me out! Oh well.
