I happened to stumble upon this author and basically bought the book due to the cover. Normally this is not a good idea considering the old saying, 'never judge a book by its cover', but in this case, it sorta worked out for me. I can say that the world Caris Roane created is quite interesting and the plot line worked out just fine. I was a bit disappointed with her writing style. The book was quite lengthy and multiple times I was surprised to see how long it was taking me to get through the book. I consider myself a relatively fast reader, but this book took me two days to finish which I normally finish books in a single day. Alison, the heroine of the story, was a fun character to get to know. Her attraction to her warrior, Kerrick, was swift and deciding. Kerrick was the one stubborn one, which made this book not one of my favorites. I do prefer the female to being the stubborn one and the male to be...well alpha male, but anyways, the two were perfect together as a couple would be expected to in these types of books. The action was there, but delivered lukewarm. I am certainly willing to give the second volume a try considering the series has potential, but if Caris Roane doesn't deliver a more well-written book, I will have to leave this series unfinished.

So far this series is a great read. The stories are incredible. The love between the couple's are so deep and their struggles to be together are a journey of great sacrifices and courage. I recommend this series to everyone who loves a little action, romance and vampires to get on board with this series. Love it!!!!
This was a different, but very interesting and excitable, look on vampires. Separate dimensions and powers of all kinds and the best of all.....Wings! I love getting to know Alison and Kerrick, and the world that is the Guardians of Ascension. Very detailed and action packed, it kept me turning the pages to see what would happen. An awesome read that I highly recommend!!!!
I was looking online for this book, and to my delightful surprise, it was going for a penny. All I had to pay for was shipping. I thought to myself, how good a condition can a penny book really be? But to my surprise, it was in almost new shape. Slightly bent from some moderate reading, a stamp here or there declaring its owner, otherwise pristine condition!!!! Thanks for the excellent buy!!! This book was a VERY spicy read!!
I love this series! It keeps me enthralled throughout the entire series. Lots of mystery, suspense, drama, love and romance, intrigue the entire series keeps you on the edge of your seat. My only complaint is there is a lot of repeating in each book of past situations. Otherwise it's a nail bitter.
I keep looking at this book on thinking that it sounds pretty good but I'll get to it later. I shouldn't have waited so long!! It's a different but great spin on vampires that I really like!! I'm about to start on the second book after this post!!! Enjoy!!!

This is the first book of the "Guardians of Ascension" series by Caris Roane. It has some of the same components of J.R. Ward's BDB series as well as Christine Feehan's Carpathian series. A group of warriors who have been fighting for centuries and are just now beginning to find their mates, etc.

Having said this I did enjoy the book. There are enough differences to put a new spin on vampire mythology and make the story interesting. For one, to become a vampire you have to "ascend" to another realm where you get your fangs and eventually wings. You may continue to develop special skills or powers after ascending. The intimate scenes are well written and don't detract from the story.

As another reviewer stated there are some things that just don't make sense. Seven warriors fighting against an infinite number of vampires, always managing to win each fight as well as survive them despite the severity of their injuries, and they fight with swords and daggers against vampires who have guns/explosives, etc. However this is "fiction" and sometimes you just have to let minor storyline issues go and enjoy the read.

In summary, I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading the rest of the series because these warriors are HOT!
Winged vampires.... Now, I love me some vampires, and I also really like angels (especially the darker or fallen ones). But together, it's just.... odd. Original, yeah, but it didn't work for me. The whole 'folding' thing was confusing, too. The male lead can't fold himself, yet he can do it with his weapons... And how are others doing it for him when they are not with him? It doesn't make sense to me. It also seemed the female lead was going to be just another tired cliche. I didn't care about her at all, or the main character. I was somewhat interested in Thorne, but otherwise, meh.
